Plants for Dry Areas These are the varieties that will do better in dry areas. Many are drought tolerant once established. A couple of key notes: 1) This isn't often mentioned when "drought tolerant" plants are discussed is defining "tolerant". While they can "survive" they will not look as good nor will they grow as well as ones that receive at least a couple of deep waterings during the driest parts of late summer or during drought years. 2) You will need to provide regular deep waterings the first year or two for maximum results and plant establishment.
