~Heron's Bill~ Low mound forming ground cover with small geranium shaped leaves. Beautiful medium pink flowers, spring to fall. We have grown this plant for about 3 years now. I can't say enough for how well it blooms over such a long season. Perfect as a small scale groundcover or rock garden plant. Can be grown as a house plant, requires sunlight to bloom well, so place it next to a window. Can also be used between stepping stones in light traffic areas. Bloom: Bright medium pink flowers with darker veins from late March to September. Habit: 2-4" tall and 6-12" wide. Exposure: Full sun. Site: Plant in somewhat rich well drained soil. Spreading rate: Medium. Uses: Works very well in rock gardens and containers. Use as a low border or edge to pathways and planting beds. Can be used as an indoor houseplant near windows. Fertilizing: Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall. Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source. Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer. Be sure to rinse fertilizer off of foliage. Watering: Regular summer water should be provided the first couple of years to ensure good plant establishment and to promote maximum growth. After that, water as needed. Pruning: Light trimming can be done at any time. Foot traffic: Tolerates light foot traffic. Hardiness: 0° to 10° F. |
