              ~Elijah Blue Fescue~

A clump forming grass with silvery gray/blue foliage.  Makes a nice accent to any garden.  Attractive tan colored seed heads in fall.

Bloom:  Tan flower spikes bloom in late spring.

Habit:  8-10" tall and 8-12" wide.

Exposure:  Full sun to part shade.

Site:  Well drained soil.

Spreading rate:  Medium.  Gradually expands from a central clump.

Uses: Use singly as a focal point, or in groups as a backdrop to lower growing perennials in the landscape.   Use around a dry base of large evergreen trees.  For pathways use it to establish an inside corner where an occasional foot scuffing might damage lesser plants.

Fertilizing:  Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse the fertilizer off the foliage.

Watering:  Regular summer water should be provided the first couple of years to ensure good plant establishment and to promote maximum growth.  After that, water as necessary.

Pruning:  You should remove flower spikes before they set seed.  Seed does not reproduce the same plant. Prune as you wish to control height and shape.

Foot traffic:  Not recommended.

Hardiness:  -40° to -30° F.
