Plants for Foot Traffic Areas

These varieties will tolerate light to medium foot traffic.  They generally fall into one of two categories; either tough/durable or ones that recover quickly.  The quick recovering varieties may need an occasional trimming if the foot traffic they receive is not sufficient to keep their height in check.  Often a reduction in watering and/or fertilizer will help control these fast growing plants once they have become established.  The flowering varieties will look their best if used where they receive little to no foot traffic because flowers damage easily.  If you are looking to cover an area that is used for yard games such as volley ball, or football then you really want to use turf grass - it will really hold up the best.
