                 ~Pennywort~

  A low mat of small, scalloped, cream edged, jade green leaves on trailing stems.  Can get slight red tints during winter.

 

 

Bloom:  Small greenish white umbels.  Blooms in summer.

Habit: 1-3" tall and 18" wide.  Nice small scale ground cover, by stream beds, or in shallow ponds or water bowls.

Exposure:  Sun to shade.

Site:  Plant in areas where the soil is moist year round.  Can tolerate shallow standing water.

Spreading rate:  Medium to Fast.  Spreads by above-ground runners. 

Fertilizing:  Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse the fertilizer off the foliage.

Watering:  Requires water or moist soil at all times.

Pruning:  Can be pruned all the way to the ground in winter.  Prune as you wish to control height and shape.

Foot traffic:  Good for foot traffic.  Quickly recovers in worn areas. 

Hardiness:  -5° to 0° F.
