             ~Creeping Wire Vine~

Unusual New Zealand native plant has tiny green leaves on thin, dark, wiry stems and remains evergreen in mild climates.  Spreads by above-ground runners that root down.  Good for rock gardens or between stepping stones.  Fruit is a small, hard, red berry and adds to it attractiveness.

Bloom:  Insignificant yellowish flowers, followed by a tiny fruit.

Habit: 2" tall by 18-36"wide in 1-2 years with reasonable care.  Roots down as it spreads so will spread indefinitely.

Exposure: Full sun to light shade.

Site:  Plant in well drained soil.

Spreading rate:  Medium to fast.

Uses:  Most often used in containers and baskets.  Works great between stepping stones and in rock gardens.

Fertilizing: Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse the fertilizer off the foliage.

Watering:  Needs regular water.

Pruning: Can be mowed or sheared yearly, before new growth begins in spring.  Edge whenever necessary.

Foot traffic:  Tolerates light foot traffic.

Hardiness:  10° to 20° F.
