          ~Dark Blue Star Creeper~ aka 'County Park'

  Dark Blue star creeper forms a mat of small dark green leaves. Stems and leaves take on a purplish cast in winter.   This variety is getting more and more used in landscapes.  It's dark purple flower buds and dark blue flowers are attractive.

 

 

 

Bloom: Starry, medium to dark blue flowers from late spring through summer. 

Habit: 2-3" tall x 12-18" in 1 -2 years with reasonable care, roots down as it spreads so will spread indefinitely. 

Exposure: Full sun to part shade.

Site:  Plant in somewhat rich, well drained soil.

Spreading rate:  Medium.

Uses: Attractive as a ground cover, between stepping stones, or in rock gardens.  Companion plant with Corsican Mint for a pleasant fragrance in pathways.  Can be used in containers and as a lawn substitute in the landscape.  Commonly sold as "County Park".

Fertilizing: Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse the fertilizer off the foliage.

Watering:  Regular summer water should be provided the first couple of years to ensure good plant establishment and to promote maximum growth.  After that, water as needed. 

Pruning:  Prune as you wish to control height and shape.

Foot traffic:  Tolerates foot traffic.

Hardiness:  0° to 10° F.
