                 ~Pachysandra~

Classic shade ground cover for good reason, this plant is both tough and dependable.  Forms a low mat of deep green leaves. Slow growing, ground cover for shade areas, even under trees where tree roots can be a problem.

Bloom: Short spikes of tiny white flowers in mid to late spring.

Habit: 4-8" tall and 12-18" wide.  Spreads by underground rhizomes.  Will spread indefinitely but is not considered invasive.

Exposure: Part to full shade.

Site: Best in rich, moist soil.  Will do fine in dry areas once established.

Spreading rate:  Medium.

Uses:  A very deserving classic groundcover for shade areas.  Can be used in and amongst tree roots even in dry areas.  Good for woodland settings.

Fertilizing:  Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse fertilizer off of the foliage.

Watering:  Regular summer water should be provided the first couple of years to ensure good plant establishment and to promote maximum growth.  After that, water as needed.

Pruning: Prune as you wish to control height and shape.

Foot traffic:  Not recommended.

Hardiness:  -40° to -30° F.
