     ~Verbena 'Homestead Purple'~

Vigorous and easy to grow Homestead Purple has dark green mildew resistant foliage. The bloom will attract butterflies and hummingbirds.  Beautiful used as a ground cover in mass plantings or edgings.

Bloom: Vivid purple in profusion from June to October.

Habit: 8-16" tall and 18-36" wide.

Exposure: Full sun.

Site: Best in well drained soil.  Dislikes wet soil in winter. Heat and drought tolerant once established.

Spreading rate:  Fast.  Spreads by above-ground runners.

Fertilizing:  Feed in early spring and again lightly in early fall.  Use a balanced fertilizer, preferably one containing a slow release nitrogen source.  Always follow the manufacturer's label recommendations when making any applications of fertilizer.  Be sure to rinse the fertilizer off the foliage.

Watering:  Regular summer water should be provided the first couple of years to ensure good plant establishment and to promote maximum growth. While 'Homestead Purple' will take dry conditions once established, it appreciates a couple of deep waterings during the driest months of late summer.

Pruning:  Prune as you wish to control height and shape.

Foot traffic:  No

Hardiness:  0° to 10° F.
